A Eucharistic Reflection

A Eucharistic Reflection 2026-06-14T08:38:28-05:00 Kristin Wilson

I think one of my favorite holy days is Corpus Cristi.  I cried during Mass at the Gospel and at the homily on that day.  My husband meant to write something for that feast day but for various reason he never did. This reflection is meant to honor the spirit of that day. I want to start off with a poem I wrote about the Eucharist.

The Sacrifice

Jesus in my Bread, my Wine
I will love Him for all time.
Upon His cross he thought of me.
He gave His life so life could be.

At His supper with his friends
He gave His body that life never ends .
He gave his blood from a bit of wine.
God gave us His Son, our Brother Divine.

We Recall His sacrifice at Mass.
We pray to Him as each hour pass.
To die for us is why He came.
So for Him we must do the same.

The feast of Corpus Christi reminds me of my name.

Christi. Kristin.

I’m happy my name Kristin. It is a variation of the name Christine which is often associated with the meaning “Follower of Christ. And I am a follower of Christ. As a child I wished I had an authentic Irish name like my sisters, but Kristin is a beautiful name. I often feel that I’m too imperfect to deserve it. But what is perfect is the Holy name of Jesus Christ who is present on the alter at Mass after the priest consecrates the bread and the wine into his body and blood.

I’m meant to write about our beautiful ever holy Eucharist of which I like to think I have a very special love for.  I feel tired and keep coming up with excuses not to write today, or most days.

What about you?

Are you in love with the Body Blood Soul and Divinity
of your lover Jesus Christ?

I love being before the tabernacle in a quiet church.

Do you?

Daily Mass is special to me.  I started going when I was in college at around 19.

I did not always go.  As I grew or changed jobs, locations or slid away I would stop for a while.  I always came back.  It is so sad that many Catholics do not believe it is truly Jesus.  There are other Christians who are so devout on one hand but only see bread and wine as a symbol.  Still there are others who believe that the Transubstantiation is real even if we as Catholics are not in communion with them,

I went to Mass recently and though my seizures were shaking me I could still hear and see. I have epilepsy you see.  I hope that can be said by many a reader that they can hear and see Jesus being raised at the alter by the priest.

I wrote a lot of poetry about Christ and his suffering and the Eucharist.  That was many years ago.  A few examples I have given in this short reflection. My poetic self is sleeping.  Perhaps one day it will awaken and I will have much to add about how much Christ loves us.  For now, I have this.  I doubt it will be read by many. But still I wrote this and I spent today thinking about my life and what it is like to live here and now.

I think something new is on the horizon of my spiritual journey, though I don’t know what.  God knows.  God Loves when I am lonely or flying high. He is with me.  He is with you.

Are you there searching for greater depth with your lover wherever you are in life?

Wine and Bread

The dinner feast was sure fine
Your first miracle, water to wine.
Your disciples saw and were amazed
As on the choicest wine they gazed.

Did they think they’d seen it all
That day at the wedding ball?
But in the end, before you died,
Night before you were crucified,

There was wine to drink from human toil
From grapes that grew from Earth’s soil
And with this wine You showed your love
It became your very Blood.

Like the bread that on the mount you did share
A few loaves fed five thousand there.
At your Last Supper with broken bread,
This is what you indeed said:

“This is my Body true
Given up for love of you.”
So it is the wine and wheat,
Which we drink and which we eat

During the Mass at Transubstantiation
They became a new creation.
No longer just food from plants grown in our sod.
They become the very Body and the Blood of God.
