Meet the Catholic Prayerful Writer Belinda Terro Mooney 2026-05-20T08:06:58-05:00 Mark Wilson

LOGO Patheos Explore the world's faith through different perspectives on religion and spirituality! Patheos has the views of the prevalent religions and spiritualities of the world.

There are certain writers who feel called to let others know about Saints and be inspired and encouraged to call upon their intercession for us and others. Belinda felt called by God to write a prayer book to help people know and pray with the Saints on their feast days when they are most powerful in their intercession.  She has a mission to help the Church pray in power this way and has given us the prayer book, Pray with Us: A Saint for Every Day to accomplish this.  As part of this mission, she’s also created The Priest/Seminarian Project to help us get Pray with Us to all priests and seminarians so they can pray in power for themselves and us. Belinda has also written other helpful books as well as the poetry books, A Look at Life: Poetry for Reflection (Volumes I and II). I hope you will be encouraged to pray in power with the Saints as you…

Meet the Catholic Writer Belinda Terro Mooney

1. Tell something interesting about yourself.

I met Mother Teresa (St. Teresa of Calcutta) when she came to Baton Rouge for the opening of her home for unwed mothers. I was able to reach into the car, take her hand, and ask her to pray for me and my family. She assured me that she would. That was a wonderful reassurance, and it was a life-changing experience for me. Also, I’ve authored 9 books!

2. What makes a good Catholic writer?

The ability to stay true to our worldview which is totally shaped by Jesus and His worldview which He proclaimed in the scriptures and through His Church. A good Catholic writer is someone who can write with excellence without ever going against the Church’s teachings; someone who write works that encourage, inspire, and really help readers.

3. What do you like about being a Catholic Writer?

I love my faith and I love being able to share my faith in the nonfiction works and poetry that I write.

Hope

An understanding that all will be well;

Gratitude for what is now known,

The thoughtful expectation of what is beyond

Will keep our souls in the virtue of hope.

This poem is included in A Look at Life: Poetry for Reflection (Volume I), p.31. Both volumes can be ordered at: A Look at Life: Poetry for Reflection, Vol. 1 by Belinda Terro Mooney | En Route Books and Media

4. What is the Main focus of your particular Writing or what do you like to write about?

I love being able to write about Catholic topics like the Saints and history from a Catholic lens. I also love to write on mental health topics like the therapeutic lifestyle changes that help people set goals in all their wellness areas.

5. How does your Catholic Faith influence your writing?

When I’m writing about specifically Catholic things, I’m able to help people understand important concepts about our faith such as the fact that praying with the Saints on their feast day when they’re most powerful in their intercession is a really great practice and a way to pray in power. This is so encouraging when so many people are suffering.

6. What’s your favorite article/Post/book/story you have written?

Pray with Us: A Saint for Every Day. This prayer book features 365 different Saints, Blesseds, and Venerables, from all around the world. The really remarkable thing is that not only do I give a bio for the Saint, but there is also a prayer where we pray with the Saint to our Father in Heaven which is a new way of praying that I learned through St. Bernadette.

7. What is your favorite topic/subject to write about?

Catholic topics that are really important such as praying with the Saints on their feast day, growing closer to God through a deep prayer life, and participation in all the Works of Reparation.

8. Favorite scripture verse.

This is really hard as I have so many of them. One that I especially love right now is: Colossians 1:12-20

Let us give thanks to the Father for having made you worthy to share the lot of the Saints in light. He rescued us from the power of darkness and brought us into the Kingdom of His beloved Son. Through Him we have redemption, the forgiveness of our sins. He is the image of the invisible God, the first born of all creatures. In Him everything in heaven and on earth was created, things visible and invisible. All were created through Him; all were created for Him. He is before all else that is. In Him everything continues in being. It is He who is the head of the body, the church! He who is the beginning, the first born of the dead, so that primacy may be His in everything. It pleased God to make absolute fullness reside in Him and, by means of Him, to reconcile everything in His person, both on earth and in the heavens, making peace through the blood of His cross.

9. What Are you currently working on?

I’m almost ready to self-publish a book entitled The Three Works of Reparation: God’s Divine Mercy for Our Times. It is currently being reviewed by the theologians at the Archdiocese of Galveston/Houston and when they’re finished it will be ready to publish.

10. Name a favorite saint or Catholic or some other figure who inspires you in your life.

This is another very difficult question to answer because I just researched and came to know almost 500 Saints for Pray with Us and now claim so many of them as my patrons. I especially love the Carmelite Saints as I am a Definitively Professed Secular Discalced Carmelite.

11. Who is your favorite Living Writer?

The absolutely fabulous theologian, Dr. Brant Pitre. He is author of Jesus and the Eucharist, Jesus the Bridegroom, and many other wonderful books.

12. If you could have lunch with any deceased writer who would it be, what would you eat and what would you talk about?

I would love to have met Pope Benedict XVI. I think besides the state of the world and the Church, I’d love to talk about music with him.

13. Name a favorite movie/tv show or music you find worth sharing with others.

Catholic composer, Eric Genuis.

14.Can you see one of your books being made into a movie or tv series? Who would you want to star or direct?

No, I write non-fiction. If I ever wrote fiction, I would be extremely careful. I don’t like the way they can change things and put in things that I would not want.

15. Favorite Historical event.

The election of Pope Benedict XVI! I truly believe he will be proclaimed a saint one day.

16. What else do you want people to know about anything?

If you have the dream of writing a book, and God that put that desire in your heart then that is a good thing. Unless it’s from God, trying to write a book is going to be a very heavy, long, and frustrating undertaking. Instead, you could write many articles that would help many people and get better results. Start small. Write and publish articles and poems.
