Meet Luce The Destroyer of the Catholic Church: A Satire

Meet Luce The Destroyer of the Catholic Church: A Satire 2024-10-29T22:10:22-05:00 Mark Wilson

LOGO Patheos Explore the world's faith through different perspectives on religion and spirituality! Patheos has the views of the prevalent religions and spiritualities of the world.

These are some of the folks who thought to destroy the Catholic Church but failed.

Those Who Have Tried to Destroy the Church’ Throughout History ‘Are Themselves Destroyed Many forces have tried, and still do, to destroy the Church, from without as well as within, but they themselves are destroyed and the Church remains alive and fruitful.” – Pope Francis: ‘| America Magazine

That remains true.

Till today.

Meet the Gozer the Destructor who comes in the form of a little harmless anime girl with blue hair.

Why will she destroy the church where others have failed?

1. If kids start to like Luce they’ll start to like anime. If they start to like anime they will want to see ‘Spirited Away’, the best animated anime of all time. Actually one of the best animated films of all time period. Then they will be interested in Japanese spirits and want to leave the Catholic Church and join Shintoism. Thanks Luce.

2. People who like to react as opposed to thinking will start comparing Luce to Lucifer. It’s clear that in Italian Luce means  ‘Light‘ and is not a reference to the prince of darkness. To quote Alasdair Meyer from Facebook. “

As in Lucy, like the Saint from Syracuse, the girl at Fatima, or Blessed Chiara Badano’s nickname “Luce”. Lucifer is a compound word luc- (light) and -fer (bearer). It’s like how Alexios and its various forms and Alexandros and its various forms are two different names with the same root word (defender).”

There is even a St. Lucifer of Cagliari  who died May 20, 370 or 371. Non-Catholics will see how not so bright Catholics are to overreact and make a comparison that is obviously not true. They then won’t want to join a religion with so many dim people, thus causing the church to dry up and shrivel.

3. Luce will draw the world’s attention away from Taylor Swift who will then go on to hypnotise millions of people with her music who will Just Shake Off religion while she casts her spells on them that she learned while a student at Hogwarts.

4. Luce’s staff is equal to a wizard’s staff like Gandalf’s. She will probably try to wield her staff against a Balrog and because she is a little girl won’t be able to do it properly and thus the Balrog will come and destroy the Vatican thus putting an end to the Vatican and destroying the church.

5. If the church decides that anime is OK the next thing they will approve is Rap during mass. They will insist after Papa Frankie (Aka Pope Francis) releases his debut album “Straight out da Vatican ” that it be played at all masses. This will cause a Mass conversion to the Orthodox Church where they play more chant type music.

You’re Martin Luther
and I’m the Council of Trent.

6. In a private revelation to an anonymous nun in some remote hidden away convent deep in some country the Mother of God appeared to her and gave her this warning “My child, the usurper on my son’s throne will introduce a small idol, worse then Pachamama that will destroy my son’s church.” BOOM. See confirmation. She also added. “I mentioned this in my third secret to the children at Fatima. And that same guy said my appearances at Medjugorje are cool.”

7. The pope still hasn’t consecrated Russia to Mary’s Immaculate Heart properly. Before leashing Luce on the world, he should redo the consecration. Here are some  Possible Reasons Why The Consecration To Russia Didn’t Work.

8. Sales of Muddy shoes will go on sale causing fashion to take another nose dive. If they can sell pee stained jeans they can sell pre-muddy boats.

9. On the plus side, sales of Yellow Raincoats will go up helping people in that industry stay employed. So it will be a good thing. Maybe the only good thing to come of this. I also predict the song ‘Yellow’ by Coldplay will see a increase in sales and radio airtime. Maybe it will start to be sung in churches alongside Papa Frankies Raps.

10. If you wanted to draw in people, why not use established animated stars that already exist and give them the limelight.

11. Paul Adomshick on Facebook informs us  Apparently, the character was named after Blessed Chiara Luce Badano (October 29, 1971 – October 7, 1990), and was released in anticipation of her feast day.

This is  a bad look still because no one freaking knows who she is and again…Saint versus Blessed. And they haven’t made Fulton Sheen a saint yet. So why should she be made a blessed and not him. That’s not fair.

Actually she would be the same age as me if she were alive. I just needed something else to complain about.

12. The characters are too cute and cuddley and will make the world think were soft and weak when this is how we want to appear.

Now that would be a cool mascot. Striking fear into the heart of heretics and dissenters just like a Catholic batman. Now if you redesign Luce into a figure that resembles a medieval painting that would be more appropriate. Like Agatha of Sicily  who cut off her breasts and is often displaying having them on a plater. She has yellow on and is wearing a neckless you could turn into Rosary beads. you could easily give her a veil and she isn’t wearing pants. The doll could have a string where she recites cool Catholic phrases in Latin.

Dies irae, dies illa,

Solvet saeclum in favilla:

Teste David cum Sibylla.

Translation:
Day of wrath, that day will dissolve the world in ashes, as foretold by David and the Sibyl.   Dies Irae: Masterpiece of Latin Poetry

Francisco de Zurbarán   (November 7, 1598 – August 27, 1664)

My final thoughts after giving you all these convincing reasons why she will destroy the church as told from the Facebook Commentary…

From Dustin Quick

I really don’t mean to offend or be disrespectful, but…

If an innocent and cute (I know it’s subjective lol) Catholic mascot, which is geared to the younger generation – and which may be helping them (and others) garner interest in the faith – causes you *disproportionate* outrage, bitterness and (online) complaining and fighting, your reactions and attitudes just might be the reason why people get turned off by Catholicism, thinking it is angry, bitter, and dour.

Let’s check our hearts. Let’s check our priorities. We don’t have to like it (I could personally care less; I have more important things to worry about than a cartoon.)

Let the kids have it and have fun. Don’t be the reason people think we’re irrational, joyless, fundamentalist prudes. I’ll gladly show this to my three girls.

Chill out. Move on.

700 Club has controlled anti-Catholic Bible anime my whole life from Flying House and Superbook series

That’s 40 years of anti-Catholic content that most parishes are using for Sunday school.

Because they invest into these types of programs.

Who else is scrambling to make this a Halloween costume for their kid now?

From Patheos Blogger Andrew Likoudis

Our culture is majorly influenced by cartoons and video games.

This is also a prominent in Japanese culture. Luce is directed towards this culture, specifically, the figure was created for the World Expo 2025 in Japan, which coincides with the Vatican’s Jubilee Year of 2025, but which is distinct from it.

It’s a figurine designed for a particular event in Japan, as an appeal to a dominant culture in Japan—anime/manga—as a means of cultural introduction to the Church.

It will be introduced by the Dicastery for Culture at a comic convention in Italy prior to its tour to Japan.

For those who question the legitimacy of appealing to a people in this way,

St. Paul writes in 1 Corinthians 9:19-23:

“For though I be free from all men, yet have I made myself servant unto all, that I might gain the more. And unto the Jews I became as a Jew, that I might gain the Jews; to them that are under the law, as under the law, that I might gain them that are under the law; To them that are without law, as without law, (being not without law to God, but under the law to Christ,) that I might gain them that are without law. To the weak became I as weak, that I might gain the weak: I am made all things to all men, that I might by all means save some. And this I do for the gospel’s sake, that I might be partaker thereof with you.”

The Eeyore crowd hates it, but let them go their own way.

I feel like BI. Carlo Acutis would’ve been a Luce fan.

From Fr Matthew P. Schneider, LC

Yesterday, the Vatican released Luce, the little pilgrim as the mascot for the holy year 2025 and Expo 2025 in Japan.

A lot of fan art sprouted up organically & quickly. This morning I started a thread of best fan art so far, and It has over 50 images. I did not make any of these & I tagged the artists in this thread: A thread of some of my favorite #Luce fan art creations so far.

Pillar Posts – JD Flynn…

“Readers, I understand the risk I’m taking here. I’m certain that my Luce-take might prove to be The Pillar’s Washington Post moment, in reverse.”

“But Luce introduces the concept of pilgrimage in an accessible way, as an invitation that can be universally understood to take up a cross and follow after the Lord. I don’t think she’s a sign of the Church’s capitulation to modernism or crass commercialism or anything like that: I think she’s an example of the Church speaking in intelligible and approachable signs and symbols to the world as it is.”

“I like Luce. I think she’s a fun piece of pop art with accessible symbolism, and I hope they retail a funko pop version of her so I can buy one for my kids. And if you’ve spent the last 24 hours posting online that Luce is a symbol of everything wrong with contemporary Catholicism, I think you should take a breath and chill out a little bit.” I like Luce
