The Carmelite’s Poetry Is… 2022-11-30T01:04:24-05:00 Mark Wilson

LOGO Patheos Explore the world's faith through different perspectives on religion and spirituality! Patheos has the views of the prevalent religions and spiritualities of the world.

I could write a short poem about how I’m too tired to write even a short poem and can barely keep my eyes open.

Then would I be writing a poem, which is thought provoking or would I just be complaining,
which could be seen as a sin depending on the situation?

Poetry Is…

Poetry is emotion put to silent word

on paper

It is usually only deeply understood by its writer

Only a contemplative mind can right deeply profound poetry

Poetry can be written for children

But such poetry wonderful as it may be is written for children to understand

Poetry is written as a form of meditation

To express love, sorrow, life, death

I would venture to say that this deep poetry is written by the introvert, or a reclose,

Perhaps by a person trying to understand the world, a person of great faith, or one seeking the unknown

Poetry is an enigma as it is called to be

You can read Kristin (the Carmelite’s) poetry, reflections and other writing by clicking on the links below. This will be updated accordingly and when I can do it.

Poetry fills me
with the urge to write poetry,
to sit in the dark and wait for a little flame
to appear at the tip of my pencil.

Billy Collins

And along with that, the longing to steal,
to break into the poems of others
with a flashlight and a ski mask.

Billy Collins, The Trouble with Poetry: A Poem of Explanation (October 18, 2006)

Kristin
The sparkling green emerald isle shined in the ocean of her eyes
Dublin, Belfast, Cork and Danny Gal sprang from her lips as she pranced around the room
Singing a beautiful tune off key to the ears but not to the heart of the one who hears

Her rosary beads wrapped around her small dry hands,
Were ready to invoke the presence of the cross into her soul
At the moment she uttered the mantra of meditation
In the atmosphere of silence she engulfed herself in.

The boots and shoes flowed out her hands
On to the feet of the various stockings that walked
Into Walking and sat as she waited to serve and Earn
The upkeep of her necessary material existence in wait of her
New everlasting one

Her loved one comes home from helping the Word spread
Across the wide wild world with a word of her own
To their unitive bound
Both written and expressed with a kiss

She is quiet now, laying down in her room
Not wanting to visit noise or game
Lying in her silent prayer
As her God caresses her soul
And her Husband writes about it

I had a very good story to tell the other day but with no one to tell I decided to pray.
So I told God my story, of course he already knew at least he did not ask “Is that story true”.

And so I write here and there My computer is nearly the size of the Earth
so long as there is an internet connection
So I’ll tell this internet world I’m in love with a man who died 2000 years ago and rose from the dead
I’m in love with an infinite Triune God

An Open Letter to African Americans JULY 04, 2020

Good poetry does not need to be accompanied by a photo.
Good poetry only need a purpose
My purpose is to remind readers that this life is temporary
Love God, serve others be forgiving be prayerful
Then my poetry will be good poetry, not because it is eloquent
it’s not
it’s of God

And if I die tonight I won’t be the youngest.
Some will weep
Some will say “wow I can’t believe she died”
and move on as if nothing happened really.
But I hope that when I die
I will say Yes to Jesus, and sorry,
I will beg for mercy.
I will live with my love for eternity.
