We Are His Princesses and Princes

Adoption
is an option

The child need not come
From far away with a high sum
We are God’s children by adoption
and from where did we come?

Our Princess:

BOSTON (CBS) – There are some wonderful success stories today, during National Adoption Month. Two of our Wednesday’s Children joined 38 other Massachusetts kids who were formally adopted. Jack Williams introduced us to Princess in 2011.

More cheers when Princess legally joined the family of Kristin and Mark Wilson. “We brought our own little princess into our home” says Mark.

When we first met her, she was already 13 years old. She came to live with us at 14, as our pre-adoptive foster child and was adopted by us officially at the age of 15. She moved out of our home at 18 of her own volition. Here are some of my favorite Princess moments and quotes.

“We never get homework on the first day!” (She was in my catechism class as she was the age I was teaching and got upset when I passed out a paper for homework asking the students what they wanted to learn this year.)

“Take that China.” (Don’t ask, I don’t get it either, but she said it a lot when she wanted to make a point about something.)

“It’s a glitch, not a catastrophe.” (We found a chart on her classroom wall all about this.)

“The best day ever!” (She had a lot of Best Days Ever)

“Can I be Catholic?” (One of my favorite quotes)

“I can’t read.” (Which was not true)

“My brother and I have been alive with technology longer than you.” (Yeah, Mark and I are so old we remember pong; how primitive of us.)

“My Marky; He’s my Marky; he’s not your Marky.” (Yeah, he’s just my husband.)

Stories:

1. I told Princess that I had Epilepsy and what it might look like if I have a seizure. I explained what to do, which in my case is, nothing, unless my head is bleeding or something. The next day while Mark was at work and she and I were at the kitchen table eating lunch she suddenly started wagging her head and said something to the effect of: “Help, I’m having a seizure and I’m not kidding, and it’s real. And I’m not faking”. -The most unconvincing fake seizure I have ever seen.

2. Our daughter put her tongue on the metal banister by our steps. Yeah, it really does stick and then bleed just like in A Christmas Story. Seriously!!! Thankfully she is not bleeding much and will be fine. Princess you were supposed to be clearing the snow in the driveway.

3. Our daughter said something which bothered me and I yelled at her. She got upset and was sad for a while. When she calmed down and wanted to apologize for what she said, she wanted to pray the whole Rosary to make amends. She is not Catholic yet but is showing more faith then most Catholic teens that I know. Jesus often praised the faith of non-Jewish people. At the end she said “That was Fun.”

Princess did a lovely job singing with other kids at Mass this evening! I’m also impressed that my Latina daughter can hum out Irish songs with a cheap plastic gazoo, as well as Christmas hymns!

Princess: Kristin I’m hungry
Me: Princess go to bed (She had a bedtime snack already)
Princess: I don’t think it’s that. I think I need some tums
Me: Have 1 and go to bed.
Princess: Kristin you’re a good mom. 🙂
(That was so nice of her even though I just placated her by letting her have 1 Tums and no second bed time snack)

We took Princess to Lasalette Shrine last night after visiting my family. She thought the lights and religion displays were amazing. It is great to see her excited about the Catholic faith when she was not raised so.

Princess and I read together for almost 2 straight hours. It’s a miracle! Pink cookbooks with mostly junk food. It’s reading and she wanted to keep going and did not argue or complain! We need more pink junk food cook books on the planet.

-We are Gods adopted children.  Princess is our child and God’s. We fall short at times but are always loved by God.
Ephesians1:5-6 “In love he destined us for adoption to Himself through Jesus Christ in accord with the favor of His will, for the praise of his glory of His grace that He granted us in the Beloved.”
