Honorable Mention: Feminist Conversations in Religion 2013-07-14T16:58:15-06:00 Caryn Riswold

LOGO Patheos Explore the world's faith through different perspectives on religion and spirituality! Patheos has the views of the prevalent religions and spiritualities of the world.

In case you’re not aware of this amazing resource and opportunity, let me introduce you to the WATER (Women’s Alliance for Theology Ethics and Ritual) series of teleconferences with feminist scholars of religion.  It’s a monthly teleconference featuring a short presentation by a leading feminist scholar as well as ample time for question and conversation.  Wonky technology notwithstanding, you can’t find a better way to be in actual conversation with feminist scholars and activists around a range of topics in religion.

At this website, you can find not only the schedule of conversations on tap for the fall, but also notes and recordings of past conversations.  Topics have included:

“Third Wave Womanist Religious Thought”

“In Search of Healing: Confronting Rape Culture and Spiritual Violence”

“Goddess and God after Feminism: What is the Nature of Divine Power”

“Queering the Human Situation”

“Breaking Through the Stained Glass Ceiling: Women Religious Leaders in Their Own Words”

“Suffering and Salvation in Ciudad Juarez”

So go read, listen, think, and call in next time around!

And FYI, the teleconference series is only one great resource from WATER:

The Women’s Alliance for Theology, Ethics and Ritual (WATER) began in 1983 in response to the need for theological, ethical, and liturgical development for and by women.

A feminist educational center and network of justice-seekers, WATER brings twenty-nine years of experience to programs and publications, liturgical planning and consultation, workshops and retreats, counseling and spiritual direction which have helped thousands of people create and sustain inclusive communities in society and religion.

WATER offers fresh insights and abundant opportunities for all who thirst to engage in theological, ethical, and liturgical work developed by women.

Author note:  ‘Honorable Mention’ is a recurring feature on this blog … a quick mention/shout-out to someone or something worth noting.
