Reproductive Justice & Prayer 2012-10-05T10:49:34-06:00 Caryn Riswold

LOGO Patheos Explore the world's faith through different perspectives on religion and spirituality! Patheos has the views of the prevalent religions and spiritualities of the world.

As the election comes closer, and as voting is underway in many places, I continue to provide this resource for all those working for reproductive justice.  This week’s prayers include work on behalf of survivors of violence, attention to gender identity, and support for women in the military.

40 Days of Prayer to Stop the War on Women is a campaign by Faith Aloud, with a prayer a day beginning September 28 and leading up to the election.

“Faith Aloud is a movement to give spiritual support to persons making reproductive decisions. As people of religious faith and conviction, Faith Aloud supports reproductive justice for every person. Our struggle for reproductive freedom includes issues concerning: abortion, adoption, choice, LGBTQ rights, Same-sex marriage, reproductive health and their intersections with faith and spirituality.”

Here are the prayers for the fourth week:

Day 22: We pray that discrimination based on gender will no longer be tolerated, no matter a person’s gender identity.

Day 23: We give thanks for the strong women in our lives who have given us examples of good decision-making.

Day 24: We pray for women in the military, that they have full access to reproductive healthcare.

Day 25: We pray for women who have been made afraid of their own power by their religion. May they learn to reject fear and live bravely.

Day 26: We give thanks for the intelligence, talent, wit, and wisdom of all the women and girls in our lives.

Day 27: We pray that Americans refuse to support language that challenges the rape survivor instead of the perpetrator.

Day 28: We pray for immigrant women and for their ability to provide for their families.

And while it may be important, praying is not enough.

Vote.
