To the Great Goddess, mother and Maker of all things, we call for a light to lead us, that light of promise held in our hopes when we waited in the shadowed lands, on the plains of ashes and in the places of darkness. Bring us, we pray, once more that light in our darkness to comfort us against cold death, to warm us with new life, new strength, and so to set the brilliance of the new day and day-growth once again upon our lands. Bring us, we beg, your Star Child and the Promise of the Sun.

– Ronald “chalky” White, co-founder of The Regency, taken  from The New Pagans’ Handbook

This simple devotional prayer takes place around the night of the 23/24th December and accompanies libation, poured to the tree of life, and the lighting of the candle of Promise. Written by Ronald “Chalky” White, former Summoner of Robert Cochrane’s Clan of Tubal Cain and co-founder of The Regency, this poetic expression encapsulates the essence of the season.

In this, another tough year for many, we hope we may turn again to the new year with renewed vitality, and the warmth in our hearts that kindles the flame of kinship.
