Why Catholics Must Not Vote for Obama

Last updated on: November 5, 2012 at 7:51 am   By Kellie "Red"

It’s pretty simple really. No Catholic, and really no person of faith, can in good conscience vote for Obama. You may vote for Romney, and you may vote 3rd party, but you cannot vote for Barack Obama. Now allow me to explain. Read more

Putting First Things First with Your Vote

Last updated on: November 1, 2012 at 8:07 pm   By Kellie "Red"

In our day, sanctity-of-life issues are foundational — not because of anyone’s ‘religious’ views about abortion…but because the act of dehumanizing and killing the unborn child attacks human dignity in a uniquely grave way. Deliberately killing the innocent is always, inexcusably wrong. It sets a pattern of contempt for every other aspect of human dignity. In redefining when human life begins and what is and isn’t a human person, the logic behind permissive abortion makes all human rights politically contingent…... Read more

Some entertainment…***Updated***

Last updated on: October 30, 2012 at 7:47 pm   By Kellie "Red"

If you need something to do today, and you have still have power, go here and click on the free video teaser.  Jim Gaffigan is hilarious, and his newest show, Mr. Universe, is really funny, opening with a lot of laughs at the bigger Catholic family experience.  He even throws in some great lines about homebirthing in a 2 bedroom apartment.  We paid the $5 and ordered the entire show.  So far, it is very funny and well worth the... Read more

If you can read this, you must have power…

Last updated on: October 29, 2012 at 9:24 am   By Mary Alice

The 4 builders on the East Coast are hunkered down for Hurricane Sandy.  We have been sharing preparation tips, many gleaned from the previous experience of our Texas builders, and more recently from our own experience with Irene. Where I live, in Central New Jersey, the roads are closed, so we are to “shelter in place.”  We went out before the storm and bought lots of convenience foods.  We will be able to use our stove even in the power... Read more

Laundry Lovin’

Last updated on: October 25, 2012 at 8:39 pm   By Bethany "B-mama"

I sat outside the big boys’ room tonight folding the two loads of laundry that lay scattered in the hall.  It was the last thing I wanted to be doing with my time, especially with a lengthy to-do list and dinner dishes still in disarray.  I was in no better mood when M, my oldest, peeked his head out the bedroom door.  “Hi Mommy.  I’m sorry you have to do all this work.  Someday I’m going to be able to... Read more

How to Vote (quite literally)

Last updated on: October 25, 2012 at 3:25 pm   By texasmommy

It is one thing to become an informed voter and decide how you will cast your ballot. And it is important to talk to your kids about the importance of voting, but it is quite another to actually take 4 kids 7 and under to a polling location, wait in line while feeding a fussy baby, chasing a toddler, schooling a 2nd grader  and while, unbeknownst to you, your 5 year old is trying to see if your voter registration... Read more

My Fall Happy Place

Last updated on: October 24, 2012 at 9:29 pm   By Mary Alice

One of the best things about the place where I live is the proximity to a working farm which is tourist friendly.  I grew up in a big city but dreamed about life on a farm, and this is just enough of a taste for me, a mile down the road.   Read more

Social Commentary Worth Reading this Election Season

Last updated on: October 22, 2012 at 9:05 pm   By Katrina

We are in the heat of Election Season here in the United States, and there are many opinions floating around out there in cyberspace. One of the better comments that I have seen regarding social issues comes via Facebook from Professor Robert George of Princeton. I’ll post it here for the benefit of those who have logged off for the Year of Faith like Mary Alice. “MoveOn is the face of contemporary liberalism. Liberalism used to pride itself on standing... Read more

Lifting up our Mentors

Last updated on: October 22, 2012 at 6:53 am   By Mary Alice

Small things that we say (and do) can have a huge impact on other families in ways that we may never know. When I was pregnant with my first child, 12 years ago, our friend Amy, who was the wife of my husband’s co-worker, gave me great advice: “I work at a demanding job and I train for marathons, my days are pretty hectic, but I make sure that I keep the ingredients for chocolate chip cookies on hand.” Whether... Read more
