Patheos Explore the world's faith through different perspectives on religion and spirituality! Patheos has the views of the prevalent religions and spiritualities of the world.
Just prior to the start of Advent, our wonderful Pastor informed all the children preparing for 1st Communion that they would be required to fill out a Mass log and a three-sentence summary of that Sunday’s Gospel reading. These logs must be completed each week, from now until May, for students to receive their sacraments. Initially I was a bit taken aback by the assignment. Three sentences is quite a bit of writing for a soon-to-be seven year old, and the entire project seemed a bit like busy work to me. But after some thought and prayer, I readjusted my attitude and decided to fully embrace the project. I made some changes and incorporated the writing into our school curriculum. Gianna really likes the idea, and my reluctant writer is now taking time to neatly write three sentences for Fr. Anthony. In the process, Gianna is learning a great deal about writing and her faith. Her interpretations of the Gospel readings are so cute, so I thought I would share this Sunday’s below. Enjoy!
Matthew 11:2-11
When John heard in prison of the works of the Messiah, he sent his disciples to him with this question, “Are you the one who is to come, or should we look for another? Jesus said to them in reply, “Go and tell John what you hear and see: the blind regain their sight, the lame walk, lepers are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, and the poor have the good news proclaimed to them. And blessed is the one who takes no offense at me.” As they were going off, Jesus began to speak to the crowds about John, “What did you go out to the desert to see? A reed swayed by the wind. Then what did you go out to see? Someone dressed in fine clothing? Those who wear fine clothing are in royal palaces. Then why did you go out? To see a prophet? Yes, I tell you, and more than a prophet. This is the one about whom it is written: ‘Behold, I am sending my messenger ahead of you; he will prepare your way before you.’ Amen, I say to you, among those born of women there has been none greater than John the Baptist; yet the least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he.
Gianna’s Summary (original with no edits by Mom):
John the Baptist asked his disciples to talk to Jesus. Are you the one who John has been talking adout? Yes I am Jesus said. Jesus turned to the crowd and said John is a good man he got everything ready for me.
