This is a super sad story.  A man in New York was deer hunting when the sun set.  He thought he saw a deer.  It wasn’t an animal, it was a human — his neighbor walking her dogs.  The hunter, Thomas Jadlowski, 34, pulled the trigger and then heard the woman scream.  He ran to her, called 911, and she was rushed to the hospital. Tragically, she died.

Jadlowski was charged with second-degree manslaughter — a charge to which he pleaded not guilty.  The judge set his bail at $50,000 cash or $100,000 property, and he could possibly get 15 years in prison for this horrific mistake.  Yahoo News reports:

“Today, Mr. Jadlowski is being held accountable for his dangerous and reckless conduct when he shot his neighbor in the dark,” Commissioner Basil Seggos said in a statement. “I commend the work of our ECOs, the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office and Chautauqua County District Attorney Patrick Swanson in helping to bring this case to fruition, and I hope it serves as an example for all that illegal hunting after sunset and reckless conduct with firearms will be prosecuted to the full extent of the law.”

Fine.  But now compare that story to this one.

Kate Steinle was thirty-two years old when she was walking with her father on a San Francisco pier.  Suddenly a bullet pierced her back.  Homeless man and illegal immigrant Jose Ines Garcia Zarate — who, by the way was wanted for his sixth deportation — fired the bullet. His defense team said he accidentally fired a gun when the bullet ricocheted off concrete, killing Steinle.

Even if you believe all of his attorneys’ claims about what happened, that’s involuntary manslaughter, right?

Here’s California law:

Manslaughter is the unlawful killing of a human being without malice. It is of three kinds: (a) Voluntary—upon a sudden quarrel or heat of passion. (b) Involuntary—in the commission of an unlawful act, not amounting to a felony; or in the commission of a lawful act which might produce death, in an unlawful manner, or without due caution and circumspection.

Yet, Garcia Zarate was acquitted.

Got that?  The American hunter gets charged with manslaughter and the illegal immigrant will walk the streets of our nation once again?

Donald Trump was furious about this and so am I.  He tweeted, “The Kate Steinle killer came back and back over the weakly protected Obama border, always committing crimes and being violent, and yet this info was not used in court. His exoneration is a complete travesty of justice. BUILD THE WALL!” The he posted, “The jury was not told the killer of Kate was a 7 time felon. The Schumer/Pelosi Democrats are so weak on Crime that they will pay a big price in the 2018 and 2020 Elections.”

I agree that this is a travesty of justice.

Build.  The. Wall.  And do it now!
