Oh my gosh, this is precious!  This is Down syndrome month, in case you didn’t realize it.  When a fashion line recently featured models with Down syndrome at their show in Madrid, Spain, the catwalk has never been cuter.

According to the Daily Mail, the runway show was part of Madrid’s Petite Fashion Week. All proceeds from the show are going to the Garrigou and Prodis Foundations, organizations that help children with special educational needs.

Allure described just exactly what Down syndrome is for people who don’t have the blessing of knowing someone with it:

Down syndrome is a condition people have when they’re born with an additional “copy” of chromosome 21. This extra genetic material can lead to distinctive physical characteristics, including small stature, and can affect cognitive development too. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reports that Down syndrome affects about one in every 700 babies born in the U.S. There’s no one treatment for the condition; special educators, physicians, and speech, occupational, and physical therapists can all work together to improve quality of life for people who have the syndrome.

Visibility and inclusion of those affected by Down syndrome are also important, which is exactly what the event in Madrid aimed to promote. Not only did the show support a worthy cause — it looks like the kids featured had a lot of fun on the runway.

As you probably know, when I found out my brother has Down syndrome, I was scared.  But after so many years of getting to know that wonderful kid, I wouldn’t want him to be any other way!
