On Saturday, the 911 dispatch in Columbia, Tennessee received a call from a twenty-three year old woman named Natalie Gasc.

“There’s a fire in my house,” she said into the phone, gasping and choking. “Fire! Fire! 1816.” The young woman, apparently overcome by smoke couldn’t fill in the rest of her address.  The dispatcher had to use more time and a different program to figure out her street.

The firefighters found her in a back bedroom, pulled her into the yard, and began doing CPR.

A nearby neighbor described it as “scary” as she watched the firefighters do CPR on the woman for at least five minutes.  After successfully resuscitating her, the woman was immediately taken to Vanderbilt University Medical Center in nearby Nashville.

Gasc, however, did not recover and passed away. The fire apparently was caused by a candle.

James Bennett, of the Columbia Daily News, caught a beautifully touching moment at the scene, when Columbia firefighters and other first responders knelt down to pray.

This is a very sad and poignant photo that shows how much these first responders care about their job and the people they serve.

Read more about this story here. And for the family of the woman, here are some Bible verses which might comfort you in your loss:

“Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted” (Matthew 5:4).

“He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds” (Psalm 147:3).

“Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; for You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me” (Psalm 23:4).

“God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away” (Revelation 21:4).

Also, here’s a video about the incident:
