So apparently the word “too” is sexist.  Who knew?

Well, it’s sexist according to the latest senseless argument from a feminist columnist at the Huffington Post.  The latest rant from a social justice warrior begins by discussing her decision about how much to cut her hair. She realized that she didn’t want it “too long” or “too short.”  And, of course, this small decision led her to have a game-changing realization!  The word “too” was holding her back.  It was stifling her ability to succeed in life.  And it must be stopped! (Insert eye-roll here.)

She writes:

In my experience, I rarely hear too thrown around about men. You hear someone say, “He’s short,” but you seldom hear “too short.” I hear women and men alike each day describing women as too something. But what does it really mean when you call a woman too? I asked myself, “too what?” I have determined that too means you’re calling a woman too far away from your idyllic vision of what a woman should be. Something as small as calling a woman’s dress too long or her muscles too built has a much larger social construct. With all the varying tastes and cultures in this world, it is impossible for a woman — or anyone, for that matter — to fulfill everyone’s criteria. And why is it our responsibility to satisfy them, anyway?

My epiphany about this word surprised me. I view myself as a well-versed feminist, but I never realized how deeply a three-letter adverb could cut.

The author goes on to link the use of the word “too” to “an avalanche of issues women face — from rape to pay inequality to the defunding of Planned Parenthood.”

Are these women serious? Give me a break!  The word “too” does not cause rape or unequal pay.

This is not about women’s inequality.  This is just about human nature and the fact that we live in a fallen world.  We, male or female, are never going to be completely satisfied with ourselves this side of heaven.   We are always going to wish we were a little more of this or a little less of that – that is just part of being human!

Why do these women always have to make this about gender inequality?  Why do they always have to play the victim?

I wish that being pro-women was not synonymous with being whiny, self-centered, and petty.  Instead, I wish that being pro-women meant that we celebrated the strong, resilient women that we know have overcome whatever adversity life has thrown at them.

I have so many amazing women in my life who have accomplished so much.  And you know how they got there?  It was definitely not by writing silly articles about a three-letter adverb.  It was by working hard, being faithful to their families and to God, and never letting anyone – male or female – tell them they couldn’t do something.

Now that is a “pro-women” platform I can get behind.
