Last spring Selena Gomez stepped out in a bikini while on vacation, and the Internet trolls came out in full force to criticize her for her weight. But the petit actress is not going to let the haters win the day!
This week on Ellen she took on those who fat shamed her:
“Yeah, it was the first time I’d ever been called fat,” Selena admitted. “But it was weird because it’s not just, ‘Oh, she’s fat.’ It’s like, ‘She’s a mess. She’s gone off the deep end.’ I’m like, because I’m on a vacation wearing a bathing suit? Actually, technically, that is a little too small for me, but I didn’t care.”
“That’s so degrading,” she added about being criticized for her weight.
But Selena didn’t let the haters get her down for long. “I love being happy with me yall #theresmoretolove,” she responded on Instagram at the time, sharing another sexy swimsuit pic.
“Look, I don’t what them to win,” she explained about her empowering response. “It’s so annoying when I see it all over the place and everybody thinks they can bring me down. So my immediate response was, I’m gonna post a picture and I’m like, ‘I’m happy with me ya’ll,’ and that was gonna be the story the next day. I wasn’t gonna let that be the story. That wasn’t the story.”
Way to go, Selena! You are beautiful inside and out!
It is hard enough to live your life under a microscope, but no one should have to endure being ripped apart and called fat too!
I think we all let those who criticize get to us from time to time. But the important thing is to remember that our worth is never found in the opinions of others. Our worth comes from being the person who God created us to be!
