The Smorgasbord (7/6/17)

LOGO Patheos Explore the world's faith through different perspectives on religion and spirituality! Patheos has the views of the prevalent religions and spiritualities of the world.

Since I recently deleted my social media accounts, I thought it’d be fun to periodically post here the things I would’ve posted there.

Thoughts:

Adam wanted to be God in the flesh, and he cursed mankind. Jesus is God in the flesh, and he redeemed mankind.

Life should be judged not by the quantity of “likes” or “retweets,” but by the quality of relationships with family, friends, and neighbors.

Quotes:

“Men treat God’s sovereignty as a theme for controversy, but in Scripture it is matter for worship.” — J. I. Packer, Knowing God

“We cannot be too careful about the words we use; we start out using them and they end up using us.” — Eugene Peterson, Christ Plays in Ten Thousand Places

I’m looking forward to being in Melbourne later this month to hear Lynn Cohick’s Leon Morris Lecture on Ephesians.

Mark Dever jumped on Christianity Today‘s Quick to Listen podcast to discuss Tim Keller and how to avoid building a megachurch. Though there’s much more to be said, it’s worth a listen.

In this helpful piece on Christian higher education, Nathan Finn asks questions like, “What does it look like to approach teaching, scholarship, and service as acts of love that are ultimately directed toward God and toward others?”

Though #5 is a little overstated (I’ve learned much on Twitter), these twenty theses about Twitter are truer than we want to admit.
