One day while visiting the village of Bethany, Jesus paid a visit to the home of his friend Martha. As she rushed around to serve him, she grew frustrated that her sister (Mary) was not helping. As a result, she blurted out the following:

“Lord, do you not care that my sister has left me by myself to do the serving? Tell her to help me.” (Luke 10:40)

When things go wrong or our prayers aren’t answered, we often accuse Jesus of not caring. The disciples made the same accusation (Mark 4:38) when they thought they were drowning and I’ve done it too. Pausing and thinking about the facts helps us to see more clearly, however. Jesus became man and died an agonizing death on the cross so that we could get to heaven.

I think it’s pretty clear that he cares.

Let’s pray…

Jesus – I’m sorry that I sometimes accuse you of not caring about me. I know it’s not true. It’s just that I get so frustrated with things not working out that I blame you. Thanks for not holding it against me. Please help me to trust you more. When difficulties pop up in my life, help me to believe the words of Romans 8:28 that all things work for the good. In your name I pray. Amen.
