It’s a lot easier to believe in something when you can see it with your own eyes. Agreed? Unfortunately, thinking like that will prevent God from working great miracles in your life. Walking by faith means trusting him even when you can’t see or feel his presence. It means believing that he can do the impossible in your life. All too often we do the opposite and give up, thinking that “it will never work out”.
In 586 BC, the Babylonian armies destroyed the temple in Jerusalem. In 538 BC, King Cyrus permitted the Jews to return home from exile and rebuild it. Speaking through the prophet Haggai, the Lord addressed the people who were involved in the rebuilding process:
Who is left among you who saw this house in its former glory? And how do you see it now? Does it not seem like nothing in your eyes? (Haggai 2:3)
The new temple isn’t looking like the magnificent structure once built by Solomon and they are getting discouraged. The Lord continues:
Now be strong, Zerubbabel—oracle of the LORD— be strong, Joshua, son of Jehozadak, high priest, Be strong, all you people of the land—oracle of the LORD— and work! For I am with you—oracle of the LORD of hosts. (Haggai 2:4)
The Jews are ready to give up, but the Lord tells them to get busy and keep building. He reminds them that he’s right there with them and will be helping.
What Do You Need?
Is there some area of your life that needs rebuilding? Maybe it’s a failed relationship or business venture or maybe it involves breaking free from a sinful habit. It could even involve a miracle that you’ve been praying for. Maybe you feel the Lord is calling you to write a book or pursue full time ministry. Don’t give up. With God, all things are possible. You might not be able to see the finished product or the answer to your prayer, but God can!
Let’s pray…
Heavenly Father, It’s so easy to become discouraged when we don’t see results. Help us to see with the eyes of faith and to remember that you are always with us. With you, all things are possible. Grant us the grace to hear your voice and trust you more. We ask this in Jesus’ name. Amen.
