7 Quick Takes Saturday!

Last updated on: March 9, 2017 at 10:23 pm   By Calah Alexander

So the week is drawing to a close, and once again all my good intentions from Monday went up like smoke in the wind by Saturday. This time it wasn’t entirely my fault, though. I spent Tuesday through Thursday at my parent’s house, where my dad’s Mac declared war against me and refused to let me sign in to my blogger account, so I couldn’t put up any more re-runs. I’ll do one more tomorrow, just for good measure, but... Read more

First Post at Virtuous Pla.net!

Last updated on: March 9, 2017 at 10:23 pm   By Calah Alexander

I put my first post up at Virtuous Pla.net today. It’s not big, just a short introductory post, and is nothing that you guys don’t already know. But in the interest of solidarity, check it out, won’t you? Also, stay and click around a little. That site is absolutely amazing, and is being flooded with some phenomenal posts. I keep trying to read them on my Droid during the children’s time-outs, which is making for very disjointed reading, but I... Read more

Re-Run Week Day #2: Let Me Count the Ways

Last updated on: March 9, 2017 at 10:23 pm   By Calah Alexander

Day 2 of Re-run Week! This post is one I wrote just after Thanksgiving of last year. It still remains one of my most difficult posts, both to write and to read over, yet also one of the ones that I feel the most honest about.  *** Last week, Simcha wrote a post about grace coming in increments. The post was written in order to more clearly elucidate the intention behind the Pope’s comments on condoms that made otherwise intelligent people act like blibbering morons,... Read more

The Struggle (Day 1 of Re-run Week)

Last updated on: October 10, 2016 at 11:53 am   By Calah Alexander

I haven’t had much time to post lately, and I won’t have much to post next week either, so I stole borrowed an idea from Bearing and decided to give you a week of re-runs. Since my blog is now a little over a year old, I figured I probably have enough material to get away with this. I hope. Anyhow, today’s post is a re-run of one I wrote last September. I wish I could say that I’ve grown since then, that I... Read more

Since I began blogging, I keep waiting for another (more honest) mother to write about this one subject that has plagued me since the birth of my second child. But no one has. So now, I’m starting to wonder if perhaps it’s just me, and maybe I need therapy to prevent doing all kinds of hideous psychological damage to my children. But since we can’t afford a therapist and the Ogre doesn’t believe in therapy anyway, I’m going to blog... Read more

One of the benefits of the Ogre and I being apart for six weeks is that we have neither the time nor the inclination to fight at the moment. We often find ourselves fighting when we are back around both our families for any length of time. I have many theories on why this is, the most prevalent being that we tend to slip into younger, less-mature versions of ourselves when we spend any length of time around our parents…versions... Read more

7 Quick Takes Friday!

Last updated on: March 9, 2017 at 10:23 pm   By Calah Alexander

Ah, bliss. A Friday with my Ogre. We spent the day writing, reading, ticking our children, eating leftover pasta carbonara, and cuddling. I’m also pulling for a Battlestar Galactica marathon tonight, but the Ogre wants to watch a new show called The Unit. We’ll see who wins. All in all, I’m as happy as a person can be right now…which, I guess, explains my absence from the blog this week. Without anything to complain about, what would I have said?... Read more

Go the F to Sleep

Last updated on: March 9, 2017 at 10:23 pm   By Calah Alexander

If anyone wants to buy Liam a birthday gift, this is #1, #2, #3 and #4 on my wish list for him I have to make a confession. I am absolutely, hideously, atrociously terrible at establishing good bedtime habits for our children. But phenomenally awful. Not when they’re older! No, the girls are a dream to put down. Brush the teeth, give the blessing, say the prayers, give them kisses, order them sternly to stop whatever shenanigans they’re starting and... Read more

Greater Need

Last updated on: March 9, 2017 at 10:23 pm   By Calah Alexander

Each night, I give my children a blessing, we pray to their guardian angels, we say an Our Father, a Hail Mary, the prayer of St. Michael, and then we petition the saints for their prayers.  We have many saints that have become dear to our family. Each of our children has two patron saints, as do the Ogre and I, but we also have saints who are special to us in some other way. We always ask for the... Read more
