Another way to overcome this hard season is to NOT put our spouse's needs on the back burner.

Another way to overcome this hard season is to NOT put our spouse’s needs on the back burner. Again, it’s not healthy to put things on hold–especially needs. Now, it’s important that both husbands and wives have an extra dose of patience and grace towards one another during this time.  We should make it our mission to try to bring out the very best in one another.

For example, husbands, if your wife is going insane after being home all day with a baby and toddler and she is craving some alone time, then offer to stay with the kids after work and give her some time to go get some coffee with a friend or to do a little shopping alone. I guarantee she will come back to you with a smile on her face and a spring in her step. Wives, if your husband has asked you for a little time to reconnect and it’s been awhile, then put the kids to bed extra early or get a sitter one night and give him your best attention. None of this is easy, but it is essential to keeping our marriages strong.

Some of you may be reading this and thinking that the baby/toddler time isn’t the hardest season, and that’s okay. It might not have been the hardest for you. Whatever season you are in, I encourage you to be intentional about investing your time and effort into making your marriage stronger. You both will be so glad that you did, and your kids will benefit too!
