Patheos Explore the world's faith through different perspectives on religion and spirituality! Patheos has the views of the prevalent religions and spiritualities of the world.

The Bible is crystal clear that Biblical knowledge and wisdom should be our compass and foundation for the full life that God wants for all of us. I think most Christian parents and churches would say that they are doing the best they can to teach the Word to their kids, and yet, many of us fall short when it comes to sex. But, sex is an important part of life. When we don’t address it head on, we are basically allowing the “world” to explain it to our kids. 1 Corinthians 3:19-20 gives us a sober warning when it says,
“For the wisdom of this world is folly with God. For it is written, ‘He catches the wise in their craftiness’, and again, ‘The Lord knows the thoughts of the wise, that they are futile.'”
As parents and church leaders, it is our heart and purpose to train our children up in the way they should go, and sex must be a clear part of this “training.” We can’t shy away from it no matter how awkward we think it may be. Proverbs 4:10-12 says,
“Hear, my son, and accept my words, that the years of your life may be many. I have taught you the way of wisdom; I have led you in the paths of uprightness. When you walk, your step will not be hampered, and if you run, you will not stumble.”
This is how we must approach teaching our kids about sex. We must explain the clear boundaries that need to be in place, teach the truth about how God designed sex, and delineate how to make wise choices in this over-sexed world.
