What Watches As We Laugh?

Last updated on: February 1, 2017 at 8:15 pm   By Rhyd Wildermuth

To think of land spirits as only passive victims of our rage and human endeavors is to paint them as static, unfeeling, and uncurious beings, without much agency. If they notice when we humans are at our worst, why would they not also notice when we are at our best? Read more

This Tiresome Place

Last updated on: December 4, 2014 at 7:00 pm   By Traci

There are places where humans still stop to chat, without looking at a watch or worrying that they might be late to something ... somewhere ... because the person standing in front of them is the now. There are places where nectar and marrow are still sucked by everyone, not just a wealthy few. There are places that don't make me so tired, that don't require me to fight, always fight, just to live my life. Read more

Not The Thanksgiving You Were Looking For

Last updated on: November 27, 2014 at 8:49 am   By Sterling

A couple nights ago I lay in bed not quite falling asleep while thinking about the just-announced grand jury decision in the Michael Brown killing in Ferguson, MO and I decided that I needed to write a Thanksgiving post with all the things that you can’t really say you are thankful for because they are horrible. But even as I made my list, I worried that some people would just read the horrible parts and not process the reasons or... Read more

When Technology Forces Us To Leave Space For Nature

Last updated on: November 12, 2014 at 5:27 am   By Sterling

As I approached the forest last week, I remembered that the reason it exists there is because of a sort of exclusion zone in the middle of the city. I didn't know at the time the full extent of that exclusion zone. I only knew about the high tension electric lines strung up on kachina dolls overhead. No one wants to live under that. And yet we can't live the lives we live without the power that they bring. Read more

Meeting With The Gods and Spirits

Last updated on: November 4, 2014 at 7:27 pm   By Sterling

How do I tell you a story without telling you the whole story? I’m good at that “Dare” thing, but not very good at the “Keep Silent” thing. Except that this time I was told to hold some things back. Some of the story I can share, and some I cannot. Maybe its because of the magick that’s still working from last night, and maybe its because not everyone would understand, or maybe its something else entirely. I don’t know.... Read more

After the Storm, The Mushrooms Arrive

Last updated on: October 29, 2014 at 12:11 am   By Sterling

Every little thing distracts me as I walk. The sound of a bird alert warning others of my presence. Another bird alert farther away that might be about my friend's cat who has been known to track me on my hikes. My attention shifts from the forest canopy down to the floor. Oh! And what's this? Read more

The Mystic Black Hole Where Technology Failed Me

Last updated on: October 22, 2014 at 1:48 pm   By Sterling
