Feeding the Sidhe

Last updated on: May 8, 2017 at 5:42 pm   By Elinor Prędota

Back in 1998, before I moved to Scotland, I was a baby Witch living in Bath. I was reading all the gentle introductory books on Witchcraft I could find, and starting to put their exercises into practice. One of those books, I can't remember which, suggested beginning a relationship with the Sidhe – the beings most people refer to as 'faeries'. But for all my curtsies and silver coins, I didn't really believe in faeries until I moved to live in the country, and then it wasn't so much me believing in them, as them rushing up to me and grabbing my attention... Read more

What is Place anyway?

Last updated on: December 17, 2012 at 1:59 pm   By Niki Whiting

Place may seem like a strange choice for a religion blog. There’s no religion called Place. But Place was the first ‘religion’ that I knew. Read more

Be vewy vewy quiet, I’m hunting connection

Last updated on: December 13, 2012 at 2:58 pm   By Traci

When our Place changes in ways we don't entirely like, in ways we feel an unidentifiable sense of wrongness about, it impacts us deeply, both emotionally and psychologically. We feel sad, sometimes despondent and even angry. This is solastalgia in action. Read more

Connecting through language

Last updated on: December 11, 2012 at 6:40 pm   By Sterling

While some magickal workers would argue that spirits are not limited by language barriers, my personal experience suggests that language is a powerful key in the search for connection. Read more

Letting my inner country girl out

Last updated on: May 8, 2017 at 5:37 pm   By Elinor Prędota

I was born in South London (pronounced “Saaarf Laarndun”), in the area of Lewisham -- you can't get much more urban than that -- and I was raised in England's second largest city, Birmingham. And yet, since adolescence, I've felt ill at ease with city life. Read more

Living by the Light

Last updated on: December 11, 2012 at 6:41 pm   By Niki Whiting

I grew up in a rain forest in the south eastern panhandle of Alaska. The stark contrast in light between December and June affected me profoundly, but I didn’t realize it until I moved away. Read more

Getting my feet wet

Last updated on: December 11, 2012 at 10:16 am   By Traci

The sun peeked out from behind a grey veil, illuminating Bantry Bay in gold wash. The hills below were a carpet of russet and green; the water of the bay reflected a perfect path to the Honey Plain. I took a deep breath, and allowed myself to sink—into the land, into the generational line that spans millennia, and I smiled. Read more

A journey through place

Last updated on: December 7, 2012 at 1:17 pm   By Sterling

When I was 27, I moved to Israel. People would ask me why. I’d joke that it was my Hebrew School brainwashing. “They told me that this is my Home, and I believed it too much!” They’d laugh or shake their heads with pity. What I didn’t tell them is how the Place made me feel. Read more

Whose land (spirit) is it, anyway?

Last updated on: May 8, 2017 at 5:37 pm   By Elinor Prędota

Many of my North American Pagan friends drool over my easy access to ancient monuments, to the weight and depth of pre-Christian tradition embedded in the land here. But the spirits and ancestors of this land are no more mine than they are those friends' – or if they are, it's because I've worked to make them so. Read more
