Trump Pushing for $1.2 Trillion to Give Cash to Individual Americans to Curb Negative Economic Effects From the Coronavirus 2020-03-17T20:50:38-05:00 Andy Gill
Patheos Explore the world's faith through different perspectives on religion and spirituality! Patheos has the views of the prevalent religions and spiritualities of the world.
Apparently, Trump is Channeling his inner Andrew Yang as ABC News reports that Trump is pushing for a $1.2 TRILLION stimulus. As he’s urging Congress to infuse this money directly back into our economy by giving what analysts are estimating to be $1,000 for every adult US Citizen.
This is just after the Federal Reserve Board announced that they’ll be implementing an emergency rate cut, lowering interest rates to nearly zero (in other words, as MSNBC reports, “The 1% decrease in your APR would save you $141 in interest payments, and you could pay off your debt one month faster.”)
The economic toll this virus is going to take on our country, and world at large is going to be devastating.
As most of us know and personally understand that while $1000 is amazing, it most likely will not be enough.
There are more than 7 million people who work in restaurants and bars who are going to be directly affected; especially those already living paycheck to paycheck, relying on their tips to not just pay rent but provide meals for their families. Those who are older or living with serious medical conditions yet, without health care, are already finding themselves between a rock and hard place.
Lastly, just because this is also a Christian platform, regardless of where one lands (conservative, progressive or somewhere out in left field) now is a good time for us to put our labels aside and come together as the unified Church God intended us to be. It’s also a good time for us to be reminded of the fact that the Church is not a Wednesday night small group or a Sunday morning gathering; the Church consists of you and I as individuals, filled with the Holy Spirit being and behaving as if we’re God’s [loving] hands and feet.
As with all forms of crisis’, the Church, and it’s individuals, we are judged and remembered by how we choose to act out of love.
Will you share with whoever is in need? Will feed the hungry, give life to those who are thirsty, or house and love those who are needy? Or, will you stand by and do nothing?
God’s love, similar to grace or compassion… it has no bounds. It transcends political divides, it repairs irreparably damaged relationships, it overcomes loneliness, and it allows us to be the Church unified as one, during a time of continued self-imposed social isolation.
35 For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, 36 I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.’
37 “Then the righteous will answer him, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? 38 When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? 39 When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?’
40 “The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’
