My Thoughts on God.

My Thoughts on God. 2012-07-05T15:11:15-05:00 Andy Gill

LOGO Patheos Explore the world's faith through different perspectives on religion and spirituality! Patheos has the views of the prevalent religions and spiritualities of the world.

Was listening to “This American Life” and one of the guys being interviewed said:

“I don’t see how God could exist it just seems too fantastic”

That’s kinda were I’m at.

Again, I believe in God. Common sense tells us that the dude exists. But I have a hard time getting, grasping, and/or BELIEVING that this God loves me…

…It just seems too fantastic.

A.W. Tozer says in his book “Knowledge of the Holy”

“Out of Eternity our Lord came into time to rescue His human brethren whose moral folly had made them not only fools of the passing world but slaves of sin and death as well…”

I struggle in believing that. Completely struggle with believing that.

The more I read through “Knowledge of the Holy” the less I believe that this GOD that is described to be… Eternal… Infinite… Immutable… Omnipresent…

That this God described in Isaiah 6 who sits on a throne high and above, the CREATOR of the heavens and the earth…

…that He loves me?

Maybe I can’t grasp God because He is infinite. When I say “grasp” I mean understand.

referring back to Tozer I think he says it best:

“Infinitude, of course means limitless, and it is obviously impossible for a limited mind to grasp the unlimited…”

Irregardless of the above, he goes on and says:

“Yet we [still] must try.”

I don’t think I’m alone in this, I think  I know there are millions of teenagers, single mothers, young twenty somethings, even pastors or priests who have heard, are being told, possibly teaching on a Sunday morning that God loves them…

…but yet just don’t quite believe it.

When the world, their immediate family, group of friends, or even their local church has told them other wise, through the way they’ve treated them, what they’ve said to them, or possibly how they’ve just completely ignored them…

And so people like myself project the actions of this world upon God and get the two mixed up and entangled… and struggle with understanding and grasping the truth..

That God loves us.
