LOGO Patheos Explore the world's faith through different perspectives on religion and spirituality! Patheos has the views of the prevalent religions and spiritualities of the world.

Yesterday I posted a video as seen below. I should have added more explanation behind my posting it. My bad. ha.

But I was asked via Facebook, whether or not I actually feel this way… in short.

Yes.

Though let me clarify a bit. For starters… though some of you may have thought that asian guy was me, it wasn’t. I wish i was that smooth with my words, but unfortunately i’m not.

Secondly, though it wasn’t me, I don’t think that he was saying “I wish I was never a Christian”, I took that he was saying:

“I’m sorry for the things we as Christians have done.”

“I’m sorry for those who have taken the name Christian and made it out to be something that it is not.”

I would take a it a step further and even say, “I’m not only sorry for those who have made Christianity out to be something that it’s not, but I’m sorry for the things I have done in making Christianity something that it’s not.”

Judging spiritual health about the way we dress, and by the things we say and do…

Loving my friend but hating my enemy. Rather than Loving both equally.

What shook me the most was his acknowledgement of the normal Christian 20 to 30 something, who’s is seemingly more likely to enjoy potluck dinners and board game nights, all while the homeless man sleeps in his waste or 30,000 children die per night of a lack of basic needs…

This wasn’t what Jesus intended Christianity to be, and let me be the first to call and point out my own hypocrisies. And for them, I’m sorry.

I think Stephen Colbert put it best by saying: “If this is going to be a Christian nation that doesn’t help the poor, either we have to pretend that Jesus is just as selfish as we are or we’ve got to acknowledge that he commanded us to love the poor and serve the needy without condition…”

Hypocrisy, arrogance, and self centered attitudes, should not be what we’re known for as Christians, but instead humility, love, and selflessness.

What do you think? Was this guy too over the top? Or was he right on point with his message?
