Podcast: Petty and/or Prophetic
Last updated on: July 31, 2017 at 1:38 am By Alicia T. Crosby
Take some time and check out this podcast I recorded with my boo Kevin Garcia over at Tiny Revolution. We covered a lot of ground in our time together including LGBTQ inclusion in religious community, what it means to live out your love, elitism in faith spaces, power & privilege, and what community, church, and solidarity can look like. So take the next 45 minutes and listen to our talk, Petty and/or Prophetic. I think you'll find it worth your time. Read more

I Woke Up With My Mind Stayed On Freedom, Knowing We Will Overcome Some Day
Last updated on: July 4, 2017 at 11:38 pm By Alicia T. Crosby
I woke up this morning, this “Independence Day”, with my mind stayed on freedom Not “Make America Great Again” or the US neo-imperial project but actual freedom The type that lets our young ones look forward to sunny days and clear blue skies because they don’t have to fear drone warfare or our bombs bursting in their air And as I considered this freedom, I considered our current state of being Thinking of how the toxic brew of... Pushing Past Christian Walls to Reach the Open Arms of Jesus
Last updated on: April 28, 2017 at 11:33 pm By Alicia T. Crosby
I was 5 years old when I first remember meeting Jesus. I’m the daughter of a Baptist preacher and am descended from good church-going folk so I had been introduced to him in utero but I remember meeting him at 5. I sat on the right hand side of the Scriptural Baptist Church sanctuary in a folding chair almost directly under a Sunday School poster of Jesus with arms stretched wide inviting any who would come into his care for rest. I... Read more

I’m Not Ok, You’re Not Ok, So Let’s Talk About It
Last updated on: March 18, 2017 at 2:51 pm By Alicia T. Crosby
I’m not ok. Most days I struggle to get out of bed before feeding myself, knocking out a few hours of work, taking time to rest, and then getting lost for a few hours in my curated netflix-hulu happy place. I’m not ok. It’s a struggle to be around people some days and I crave the stillness and silence that sleep affords me. Solitude has become a refuge and a reprieve for me because in those moments of being alone, I can... Read more

Why You Won’t See Me At A Women’s March Today
Last updated on: January 21, 2017 at 6:26 am By Alicia T. Crosby
Blessings to all who will march in their local Women’s March or the national Women’s March in DC today. I’ve been asked repeatedly if I intended to go for the last few months and my answer has fairly consistently been no. If you caught me in a moment where I was tired, you’d hear me speak about a travel conflict. While that was (in part) true, my reasoning is complex and will make some of you uncomfortable. I’m not attending... Read more

My 2016 in Review
Last updated on: December 31, 2016 at 6:10 pm By Alicia T. Crosby
While 2016 has been hard, it has been a year I am grateful for because it stretched and pushed me. It's reminded me that the disquiet I feel in my spirit can be harnessed to do good work that is responsive to the need I see in the world. So thank you to the year that has encouraged me to unapologetically be myself and walk, speak, and act boldly in the places that I find myself rooted in. Read more

Your Life Is Yours To Live
Last updated on: December 8, 2016 at 10:20 am By Alicia T. Crosby
“I didn’t raise you to…” “If you had just listened to me…” “Why can’t you just…” We, the adult offspring of well meaning people, have heard these words time and time again. Given the time of year, many of us are about to hear some iteration of them in the coming weeks and will be talked at by our parents, grandparents, or other beloved elders who disagree with our hair, attire, expressed ideologies, relationship status, career choice, course of...
