Are you being called, and maybe not answering? I’m not talking about answering the real phone either, I’m talking about the nudging feeling. I’m talking about that nagging depression. I’m talking about the anxiety that there’s got to be something more. Many times that stress, anxiety, and depression is because your inner phone is ringing through your calling. Listening isn’t easy, but it’s not easy ignoring either.

We all have the gift to listen, but the how, when, and where isn’t always spelled out as we think we can only pay attention if it’s two way conversation.

Last weekend I declined a night out with friends at the last minute. Instead I stayed cuddled up on the couch, staring at a book I wanted to read. I couldn’t seem to get out of my funk, though, and to be honest that depression had been lingering for months. I snuggled my chin under the fuzzy buffalo print blanket and then I heard it – my calling was ringing and with tears in my eyes I decided that I better answer. At first I was afraid to reach out for help and then I was afraid to accept the help. Worse yet, though, I was also afraid of staying in the same space.

Times may be hard – they may be bad even, but it doesn’t mean it has to stay that way. If you remove hope from your life it makes you depressed, not safe. Each step you take is a step no matter how big the step it. Be honest with yourself. Be gentle with yourself. And answer your calling no matter how big your pride is. You may not know all the answers or which path to take, but when you start to believe and trust that there’s more for you the connection becomes clearer. Your inner voice becomes louder and more bold, and little by little the dark path becomes lit and the volume of your calling louder.

Your calling is within you. You’ve always had the power. I believe in you.
