Family Feud Not So Family Friendly Anymore

family“Let’s have some iced tea and chill in front of the television tonight,” my husband suggested.

I’d worked all day, afternoon and evening and I was feeling lousy – just another dog day of summer here in Michigan, so sitting in the cool family room with the idiot box on, not having to think, sounded like a plan.

Chuck and I perused the television listings and decided on Celebrity Family Feud since I couldn’t convince him to watch Sister Wives. The first half hour was Kellie Pickler, country artist (American Idol) and television personality, and Lance Bass, singer and dancer (NSync). Now I won’t even mention how I was confused to see their choice of celebrities. Wait, I just did.

I’ve always liked Family Feud. It’s fun to try and guess the questions. I like Steve Harvey too. He has personality.

First question with Kellie and Lance up to bat. “We asked 100 women – name something specific that only your man is allowed to do to your behind?”

Wait. What? Say that again? Now I’m not prude, but where’s the class? It had to get better, right? It didn’t. “It would be awkward if you received an inappropriate text from who?” This is a prime time eight-o-clock spot. And before you say kids have heard it all before, do they have to keep hearing it?

The next half hour was Nene Leakes from Real Housewives of Atlanta (I had to look her up) and Ernie Hudson, known most for the movie Ghostbusters (and I’ve met him at several conferences I’ve done so this one I at least knew).  Nene had her two sons with her, albeit they looked to be adults, however the questions were no less risque from “Name something you would want done to you from your head to your toes?” to “If your man was naked in a sport’s calendar  what ball would he have to cover his parts” or something like that.  The innuendos kept coming too.

Steve Harvey is getting paid, but I still felt bad for him. I didn’t find any of it funny. I didn’t find any of it fun. And it absolutely not family friendly. It made me miss wholesome television. Yeah, Sister Wives more than likely wouldn’t have been much better, so maybe I’ll just get my DVD’s out and watch some Andy Griffith shows, or perhaps The Waltons.

Or I’m just getting old. Now, get off my lawn.
