A couple weeks ago my husband and friends decided to embrace our inner child by seeing Cinderella. I admit that my husband moaned a bit, but I convinced him after showing him that the movie theater by us had reclining seats and if anything he’d get in a comfortable nap (he can sleep anywhere)! I really hadn’t anticipated a so-called kid’s movie would affect me as much as it did, and I sat there, with tears streaming down my face, taking in the many lessons that a simple movie offered.

I’ve heard it in my office from many that this winter was difficult. Whether it was the lack of blue skies and sunshine or just a strange universal vibe, (or both), depression, testiness and moodiness was the norm for most, including myself. This winter seemed to last forever! So as I sniffled back my tears while watching the movie, I knew that I had to shake off the blues, stop looking for my lost ‘shoe’ and move forward.

In a moment when Ella <Cinderella> was a young girl, her mother shared a few words of wisdom to be courageous and kind. Through adversity and challenges, Ella continued to affirm that same mantra. In more words of wisdom, Ella’s mother reinforced that kindness brings out goodness, which brings out magic. And spoiler alert, all of that advice brings a happily ever after. It didn’t mean that all that happened in the past never happened, but Ella allowed in the magic.

So, Cinderella, are you allowing magic to happen in your life or are you too busy looking for your lost shoe?
