We’re all pretty aware of the common suggestions for increasing inner peace and reducing stress: exercise, meditate, eat well, and get enough sleep—all fantastic and vital aspects of well-being. But, there’s so much more we can do to support ourselves. Here are my top 3 unexpected tips for creating inner-peace.
1. Optimize your vitamin D levels. ***I’m not a doctor, but I did graduate from law school, check everything contained in this email with your doctor.***
A team of doctors from some of America’s finest teaching hospitals (UCLA, UCSD, UCD, UCSF, UCR) have created a movement, called Grass Roots Health, designed to spread the word about the powers of the inexpensive, naturally occurring, and readily available chemical: Vitamin D.
Research indicates that the benefits of having optimal vitamin D levels include prevention of Breast Cancer, Ovarian Cancer, Colon Cancer, Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma, Type 1 Diabetes, Fractures, Multiple Sclerosis, Heart Attack (Men), and more (see chart here).
Big Pharma won’t tell you about the wonders of vitamin D because there’s no money in it.1 The sun is free and supplementation costs less than a nickel a day. Depending on where you live, you may or may not get adequate amounts of the right type of sun rays for your body to make enough Vitamin D. The docs at Grass Roots Health say that Vitamin D deficiency is an epidemic, and 40-70% of the world’s population is deficient (read more).
If you want to know your Vitamin D serum levels and receive a recommendation for how much Vitamin D you should take, join the D*Action study by Grassrootshealth.net. They’ll send you a kit to test your level and give you a dosage recommendation, or talk to your doctor (tell them about Grassrootshealth.net).
In addition to disease prevention, optimal Vitamin D levels have been associated with improved fertility, anti-aging, and improved energy (learn more here).
What I noticed most when I optimized my Vitamin D level was that my mood improved, PMS disappeared, and the redness in my skin cleared. That’s enough for me!
2. Have a heart to heart with a pet.
Your heart is your body’s power core. It radiates energy and sets the tone of your being.1
Check out this info-graphic to learn about the amazing powers and functions of the heart.
Contraction, tension, being closed, or blocked in your heart center will make your entire being feel disconnected and out of sorts.
One of the most powerful and effective ways to restore balance is by loving a dog or cat. The purr of a cat cuddled against one’s chest is extremely soothing and offers significant health benefits.1
If you’re a dog lover, the news is just as good:
“Researchers discovered that a 12-minute visit with man’s best friend helped heart and lung function by lowering pressures, diminishing release of harmful hormones and decreasing anxiety among hospitalized heart failure patients. Benefits exceeded those that resulted from a visit with a human volunteer or from being left alone.” —American Heart Association Abstract 2513
Do yourself a world of good and do good in the world, adopt a rescue dog or cat. Here’s a place to start.
3. Ask empowering questions.
Ask your mind a question and it will go to work compiling compelling evidence to support the assumptions of the question1. Use this to your advantage.
Don’t ask: What is there to worry about? What’s wrong with me? Why will I fail? Why won’t this work out? Why am I so unattractive? Why is this happening to me?
Ask: What is there to feel good about? What’s wonderful about me? Why will I succeed? Why will this work? What are the most beautiful things about me? What opportunities does this situation present? How can I use this for good?
Asking empowering questions creates an immediate internal shift towards peace and causes your mind to generate solutions and notice opportunities that would otherwise go unnoticed.
What uncommon thing do you do to increase peace and well-being in your life?
