How the author of the world’s best hymn became a Christian

I've been working with John Newton for a while now. This makes it sound like he's sitting next to me in my home while I'm typing. And it does sometimes feel like that a bit. It really is as if he's my co-author. I've been helping him tell his story to a new generation, giving him a modern voice. Read more

“Open” is not Biblical, “eagerly desire spiritual gifts” is

Cautious acceptance of the theory is not how to pursue love I almost subtitled this article as “the theological argument about spiritual gifts is over.” I keep hearing from different sources that the harsh hostility towards charismatics which so many felt in previous decades has largely evaporated. Wayne Grudem’s Systematic Theology argues cogently for the continuation of the spiritual gifts, and it seems these arguments have won the day. For sure few today would deny that Christians should  expect to... Read more

Today’s article is based on an engaging conversation I had with Alex Faith, who runs a business as a Christian writer. She is also the founder of a Christian writers community called When Calls the Pen. If you think you might be called to be a writer, or you wish you could actually sell more copies of your published book, I encourage you to watch or listen to the full interview. Watch the full interview and read the transcript, or... Read more

Thank God Atheists Do Not Live By Their Worldview

Last updated on: September 13, 2026 at 2:42 pm   By Adrian Warnock

Terrible things would happen if they did It is just as well for all of us that the morals and lifestyle of the vast majority atheists do not live consistently with what they say they believe. We literally need to thank God for his role in restraining the madness that would ensue if they did. This article is based on a conversation with Christ Wright, author of The Atheist Conversation Manual and Thomas Hamilton, founder of Christian Book Finder. Watch... Read more

Jesus was not Manipulated by Anyone. He Knew when to Move on

Last updated on: September 10, 2026 at 8:19 pm   By Adrian Warnock

Move on! Drop the negative influence! Cancel the crazy ones in your life! That is not the call of Jesus, but it is the call of our modern culture. Jesus commands us to love not just our neighbors, but also our enemies. I never thought I would have enemies. It all sounds a bit dramatic but, as life goes on, you might find there is a group of people who you have offended in one way or another. Some of... Read more

Spirituality Does Belong in Healthcare: How to Truly Care

Last updated on: August 23, 2026 at 7:59 pm   By Adrian Warnock

Readers of this blog should be no strangers to me advocating for the biopsychosocial-spiritual model of health and wellbeing. Today I want to address the sometimes thorny topic of how spirituality can and should be incorporated into healthcare. Clearly I am not talking about bashing people over the head with the Bible and trying to convert them. But as retired mental health nurse Sandra Delemare said in our recent interview, "Spiritual care is asking someone how they are and really listening to the answer because you genuinely want to know" Read more

Raised With Christ is Warnock’s answer to years of sermons (his own included) that stopped short of resurrection’s full weight. Drawing on Scripture and classic theological voices, this book walks readers through what it actually means to be “raised with Christ” — not as a doctrine to affirm once a year at Easter, but as a daily reality that reshapes identity, hope, and how believers face death itself. Read more

Ten Reasons Christians Don’t Know Jesus Like in the Past

Last updated on: August 16, 2026 at 2:49 pm   By Adrian Warnock

How the church lost sight of the centrality of a personal relationship with Jesus and how we might recover it It was a joy and a privilege to interview Gary York, the author of Christ in You: Experiencing Intimacy with Jesus. This article reflects our conversation, organized in the form of a list of reasons why the average Christian today seems to have  a very different experience of their relationship with Jesus than previous generations. Gary explains this deficit beautifully... Read more

Tim Challies Interview: “We trust God with that as well”

Last updated on: August 1, 2026 at 11:18 am   By Adrian Warnock

When our hope's are dashed, and we do not understand, God is still trustworthy. In my recent interview with Tim Challies we looked back over more than 20 years of personal blogging. Deciding all those years ago to share our journeys online has meant that we have both lived our lives in view of our readers. And that has inevitably meant being open about our challenges.   We have both gone through some significantly difficult situations. Just still being Christians after all these years might be seen by some as an achievement. But in our interview Tim credited his preservation to God Himself rather than anything special about him. Read more
