“The Nine: Overcoming ISIS” – Video Of Christian Refugees From Mosul
Last updated on: February 21, 2016 at 9:36 am By Larry D
A friend of mine emailed me the following video, in which nine refugees describe their experiences during and after ISIS’ takeover of the city of Mosul. It’s only ten minutes – watch til the end. (Note: No graphic images) To a person, they present a moving, powerful message to those who persecuted them, a message we all need to be reminded of. The video was produced by a man named Michael Chang through his production company, Mighty.la. I hope he makes more like this, because... Read more

#PrayerShaming Is Nothing New
Last updated on: February 21, 2016 at 9:36 am By Larry D
Haters gotta hate – it’s been around a long, long time. And about the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, “Eloi, Eloi, lama sabach-thani?” that is, “My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?” And some of the bystanders hearing it said, “This man is calling Elijah.” And one of them at once ran and took a spong, filled it will vinegar, and put it on a reed, and gave it to him to drink. But the... Read more

How To Respond To Pope Francis’ “Fundamentalism Is A Sickness”
Last updated on: February 21, 2016 at 9:36 am By Larry D
By now, I’m sure most of you have seen the following quote from our Holy Father, delivered on his return trip from Africa: “Fundamentalism is a sickness that exists in all religions. We Catholics have some, not just some, so many, who believe they have the absolute truth and they move forward with calumnies, with defamation and they hurt (people), they hurt. And, I say this because it’s my Church, also us, all of us. It must be combatted. Religious... Read more

PARISH REPORT: Music Director Rewrites ’12 Days Of Christmas’ To Observe COP21
Last updated on: February 21, 2016 at 9:36 am By Larry D
(AoftheANews) NASHVILLE – For Ed Vokett, music director at Our Lady of Good Intentions, Advent has always been his favorite liturgical season, for a variety of reasons – the anticipation, the preparations, the decorations, the music. This year, though, he has an additional reason to be joyful. “Advent started this past Sunday, and the Paris Climate Change Conference began yesterday,” Vokett told AoftheA News. “Their proximity is not a coincidence. It’s a God-incidence.” The Paris Climate Change Conference, or COP21, is a... Read more

Last updated on: February 21, 2016 at 9:36 am By Larry D
A possible Eucharistic miracle is under investigation in the Salt Lake City diocese. Here’s the story, from Wednesday the 25th, per Salt Lake’s KUTV.com. Images of the ‘bleeding’ host at the website. (KUTV) The Salt Lake Catholic Diocese has started an investigation into what is being described as a ‘bleeding host’ at a local parish, St. Francis Xavier in Kearns. Images of the host, given to 2News, showed circles of deep red, and a section with a pink hue. As... Read more

PARISH REPORT: Pastor “Shocked” To See Front Pews Filled At Mass
Last updated on: February 21, 2016 at 9:36 am By Larry D
(AoftheANews) QUAD CITIES – Fr Phil Irrupp, pastor of St. Curds and Whey, couldn’t believe his eyes during the Processional at the 11:00 AM Mass this past Sunday. “Approaching the sanctuary, I saw that the front pews were completely full,” Fr. Irrupp told AoftheA News. “I was shocked. There were plenty of seats available throughout the church, and even some empty pews at the back. And these weren’t visitors, but regular parishioners!” Lector Ken Nyptchen confirmed Fr Illupp’s story. “The church was... Read more

If Vatican II Were A Blockbuster Sequel
Last updated on: February 21, 2016 at 9:36 am By Larry D
The other day, I had a convo with fellow Patheos blogger Tom McDonald (who now blogs regularly at Wonderful Things), during which he said he was going over some Vatican II material and information – with this year being the 50th anniversary of the council’s conclusion and all. Like a smartass (naturally), I asked, “So what’s Vatican II?” To which he replied: “You know – it was the one in which Luke learned Darth Vader was his father.” That sparked an idea in my weird brain –... Who’s Your King? Whom Do You Serve?
Last updated on: February 21, 2016 at 9:36 am By Larry D
November 22, 2015: Solemnity Our Lord Jesus Christ, King of the Universe – John 18:33-37 Pilate said to Jesus, “Are you the King of the Jews?” Jesus answered, “Do you say this on your own or have others told you about me?” Pilate answered, “I am not a Jew, am I? Your own nation and the chief priests handed you over to me. What have you done?” Jesus answered, “My kingdom does not belong to this world. If my kingdom... Read more

An Idea For The Pew Research Center
Last updated on: February 21, 2016 at 9:36 am By Larry D
Conduct a study to determine the percentage of Catholics who tend to say “Have faith!”, or “Trust in the Holy Spirit!” to people undergoing personal trials and hardships, but ignored their own advice and freaked out before, during, and after the Synod on the Family. I think they should. I think the results would be fascinating. Read more

(AoftheA News) BISMARCK – The Diocese of Bismarck approved a blockbuster trade of altar servers and draft picks among three diocesan parishes, with one analyst calling it a “game-changer”. The centerpiece of the trade is 3-time All Star, 12-year old Landon Patterson, regarded as the diocese’s top-rated altar server, and among the top-25 nationwide. The three parishes involved are St Jeter in Wilton, Our Lady of Free Throws in Minot, and St Brady in Bismarck. Patterson, a 4-year veteran of St Jeter’s, was sent to St... Read more
