Patheos Explore the world's faith through different perspectives on religion and spirituality! Patheos has the views of the prevalent religions and spiritualities of the world.
Haters gotta hate – it’s been around a long, long time.
And about the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, “Eloi, Eloi, lama sabach-thani?” that is, “My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?” And some of the bystanders hearing it said, “This man is calling Elijah.” And one of them at once ran and took a spong, filled it will vinegar, and put it on a reed, and gave it to him to drink. But the others said, “Wait, let us see whether Elijah will come to save him.” And Jesus cried again with a loud voice and yielded up his spirit. (Mt 27:46-50)
Christ was mocked by the chief priests, elders, and scribes during His hour of greatest need. Still He asked God to forgive them. So us Christians being mocked by today’s literati and liberals just means we’re following Christ’s example – best to simply include them in our prayers, asking God to show them mercy.
Dr Gregory Popchak wrote a piece earlier today which asks and answers the question, What good is prayer anyway? I encourage you to check it out. In it, he writes:
Prayer does not preclude us from working hard but it allows that work to bear much, much more fruit and do it much much more efficiently.
Recall the saying attributed to St Augustine: “Pray as if everything depends on God, then act as if everything depends on you.” Prayer and work build upon and support each other, regardless if we’re in our hour of greatest need or not.
