On the campaign trail, Donald Trump notoriously riled up crowds with a few well-worn catchphrases.  One of the most popular was when he said we were going to “build a wall” (in order to keep illegal immigration at bay) and “make Mexico pay for it.”  Conservatives flocked to the polls to elect Trump, in a surprise victory over Democratic rival Hillary Clinton.

He even upped the rhetorical heat when he feuded with former Mexican President Vicente Fox, Trump, who didn’t want this wall.

“The wall just got 10 feet taller, believe me,” Trump promised.

But, what’s the progress on that wall, one year into his administration?  IJR reports that Trump has apparently rethought this whole wall thing:

White House counselor Kellyanne Conway revealed Wednesday night that President Donald Trump has “discovered” that a “physical wall” isn’t necessary across the nearly 2,000 miles of United States-Mexico border.

Conway told CNN, “What’s true is that after conferring with the experts who are involved in this process … the president discovered that part of it will be, he knows, part of it will be the physical wall, part of it is better technology, part of it is also fencing.

“There are rivers involved, I’m told. There are mountains involved — there’s terrain that isn’t conducive to building an actual physical structure in some places,” Conway added.

Okay, that sounds a lot like there might not be a wall, after all? But what about Mexico paying for it?  I guess that’s too much to ask? Here’s her full answer:

Conway: “What’s true is that after conferring with the experts who are involved in this process, Christopher, the president has discovered that part of it will be, he knows, part of it will be the physical wall, part of it is better technology, part of it is also fencing.” pic.twitter.com/OTtevvjK7X

Conservatives are holding their breath to see if Donald Trump will keep this campaign promise.
